Workforce Development

We believe that employment, career development and business ownership allows individuals to build stable, thriving lives that strengthen their families and communities. CAIRO leverages our expertise in access and equity to create training and opportunities that open pathways in the workforce. We are also an activator, offering training and technical assistance to develop entrepreneurs who can grow and stabilize their small business. Our workforce development programs are culturally and linguistically responsive to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Cairo’s Community Based Training Program

By partnering with Multnomah County’s Preschool For All, Workforce Development Program we are able to offer community based training to Multnomah County residents and childcare workers to support their career development and professional growth through culturally and linguistically appropriate training. Stronger, more educated providers and staff create higher quality childcare options for Multnomah County children.

Multnomah County Training Program Overview

Goal

Offer training to Multnomah County early childhood educators and providers to help them advance through the ORO steps by completing community based training . This training will be focused on helping to build skills in childcare education and safety, quality improvement and program management.

Overview

CAIRO will offer ORO approved community based training to providers and educators. The training will be set one and two training across all Core Knowledge Categories (CKCs) to assist providers in advancing their steps. The primary focus is to assist providers in attaining step 7.5 or above but we will support all providers in increasing their step level.

Program Details

30 providers who live or work in Multnomah County will have the opportunity to work on increasing their Oregon Registry Step level. For each half step that a participating provider reaches after step 7 they will earn a $250 Stipend (while annual funds are available). Providers who are below step seven will earn $250 once they reach step seven (while annual funds are available).

All program participants will create an early childhood professional development plan to help them progress through the Oregon Registry steps.

Classes may be offered in Somali, Arabic, Swahili or other languages depending on the language preferences of the enrolled providers. Some classes will be offered in English and translated.

Training will be cohort based but allow for flexibility so that providers can find the ORO approved classes they need on their schedule.
All providers will have monthly meetings with the program staff to review their progress towards their goals and give feedback on the support provided by the program

Funding

The program is funded by Preschool for All, to support Multnomah County early educators and providers in increasing their Step level using the Oregon Registry community-based training path. CAIRO is focused on providing culturally and linguistically specific community based training.
